Cristiano Ronaldo Might Play in Club World Cup Next Month in the USA

Cristiano Ronaldo could play in the Club World Cup happening next month in the United States. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said this is possible because of a special open transfer window.

Ronaldo’s current club, Al-Nassr from Saudi Arabia, did not qualify for the tournament. However, Infantino hinted that Ronaldo could still join one of the 32 clubs participating in the competition, which starts on June 14.

"Ronaldo can play in the Club World Cup. Some clubs are in talks. If a club wants to sign him, the option is open. There are still a few weeks left — it would be exciting," said Infantino.

As of Saturday, Ronaldo has not responded to this news. Instead, he posted an advertisement on Instagram (where he has 654 million followers) and on X (115 million followers).

It is unusual for the FIFA President to talk so openly about a player’s possible transfer. But Infantino is known to have close ties with Saudi Arabia, which will host the 2034 World Cup. Ronaldo’s club, Al-Nassr, is controlled by the Saudi government's Public Investment Fund.

Al-Nassr is one of the four major Saudi clubs owned by the fund. The fund's chairman is Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Infantino recently visited a U.S.-Saudi event on the prince's invitation.
